The boys and girls cross country teams raced tonight in the first meeting of all six Wayne County teams for the annual Wayne County Meet at IU East.
The boys’ race started off fast, and three Red Devils made their way into the top ten as medalists. Alex Orihuela was the first to place for the Red Devils, taking fifth place overall with a time of 18:01.4. The one-two punch wrapped up with Ivan Orihuela close behind, finishing in eighth place with a time of 18:09.3. Ethan Miller capped off the medalists for the Red Devils in tenth place with a time of 18:34.2.
The rest of the top seven finished in close succession. Xavier Ogle led the next pack for Richmond, placing 23rd with a time of 19:41.4. Greyson Farmer and Ethan Newton raced for a near-photo-finish, coming in 26th and 27th with times of 19:56.3 and 20:00.2. Alex Antrim wrapped up the top seven with a time of 20:22.7, nabbing 30th place in the process. Other finishers for the Red Devils included Noah McClain (32nd, 21:11.8), AJ Carter (39th, 22:24.1), Josh Gilbert (44th, 23:20.7), Camden Baisden (46th, 23:58.5, debut runner), Lorenzo Nicoli (51st, 24:37.3), and Titus Moore (54th, 27:49.1).
The boys placed fourth in the Wayne County Meet overall.
In the girls’ race, a series of impressive performances led to a second-place overall finish, despite missing some key performers on the evening. Lizzy Graham and Keena Barker led the pack for Richmond, with both earning medals in the top ten. Lizzy’s time of 21:38.7 earned her fourth-place honors, while Keena’s time of 22:18.8 allowed her to take sixth place for the Red Devils.
The remaining members of the top seven finished as a pack in quick succession. Katy Peacock led the charge, placing 16th with a time of 24:02.8. Olivia Bailey followed her in 17th place with a time of 24:24.4. With a time of 24:44.5, Gracie Thalls earned 18th place for Richmond. Allison Stout wrapped up the pack in 19th, with a personal-record time of 24:53.4. Finishing out the top seven, Alex Parker’s time of 25:20.7 earned her 22nd place. Paige Brady wrapped up the race for the Red Devils with a 31st-place time of 34:38.3.
Almost every Richmond runner earned a personal record for the course.
The Red Devils return to action at the Randolph Southern Invitational on Saturday, September 11th, at Randolph Southern High School. The meet kicks off at 9:00 AM.
