Thursday was a big day for area baseball & softball teams as they were finally able to resume action outdoors after some wild weather in the early part of the week. Richmond battled Lincoln on Thursday as these two went to battle in their Wayne County matchup.
Both teams battled early as it was a pitchers duel. Richmond plated the first run in the top of the second before Lincoln tied it up in the third. Richmond then drove in two more in the fourth but was then responded by one for the Lady Eagles in the fourth. The game was now 3-2 going into fifth inning. Clare Lopeman of Richmond and Jaela Patton of Lincoln continued their great games on the rubber going into the seventh inning. It was then Richmond who created the late game spark as they put some balls in play versus Patton and Lamb to score four runs in the top of the seventh making it a 7-2 game. Lincoln wouldn’t go away as they had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Lopeman was able to get a groundout to get the complete game win for the Red Devils.
