On Friday night, Centerville traveled to take on Tri in a big Tri-Eastern Confernce matchup. Both teams entered the matchup 3-1, and on paper it look destined to be a nail biter. However, the Bulldogs had other plans as they rolled past the Titans 49-14.
It all began in the first quarter where the Bulldogs took their first drive the distance capping it off with a Ryan Dickenson 6 yard touchdown pass to Keegan Schlotterbeck. The Bulldogs then had some trickery up their sleeve as they recovered an onside kick. The Bulldogs again cruised down to the field before Ryan Dickenson pounded it in from 5 yards out for the score. Centerville now led 14-0 with about 6 minutes to go in the first quarter. The Bulldogs defense came up big with a stop of their own, forcing a turnover on downs as the first quarter was nearing its end.
As the second quarter began, the Bulldogs continued their success. Ryan Dickenson took the snap and hit the hole as he was gone for a 58 yard rushing touchdown putting the Bulldogs up 21-0. The Bulldogs defense then forced a Titan punt the ensuing drive. Jamari Pamplin broke a huge run bringing the Bulldogs deep within Titan territory, before Ryan Dickenson ran one in from 11 yards out giving the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead. The Titans offense then found some rhythm after a great kickoff return. Quarterback Syrus Butler connected with Vade Dishman for a 30 yard touchdown pass giving the Titans their first points. The Bulldogs responded quickly with a fast drive of their own being capped off with a Ryan Dickenson 27 yard touchdown pass to Keegan Schlotterbeck, giving the Bulldogs a 35-7 lead. The Bulldogs weren’t done just yet in the second quarter as they forced another Titans four and out. The Bulldogs then moved down the field quickly in their two minute offense which led to a Ryan Dickenson 5 yard rushing touchdown with under a minute to go in the half. Thus giving the Bulldogs a 42-7 advantage at the break.
The third quarter began as the Titans received the ball to start. They marched down the field with a 9 minute drive (running clock), where they capped it off with Syrus Butler for a 3 yard touchdown. The Bulldogs lead was now 42-14 with just around 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. The Bulldogs offense didn’t take long to respond as they moved the ball quickly setting up for a Ryan Dickenson 30 yard touchdown pass to Javontae Pamplin, putting the Bulldogs up 49-14 with just around a minute left in the 3rd.
The fourth quarter blew by just as fast as the third. As the Titans had possession of the football for over ten minutes in the fourth quarter, but could not find the end zone bringing us to our final score of Centerville – 49 and Tri High – 14.
Centerville will move to 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the TEC, while Tri moves to 3-2 on the year and 2-1 in the TEC. Centerville will travel to take on Northeastern (1-4) next week. Tri will travel to take on Winchester (1-4).
